Devane, Ben

Ben DeVane is a student of Kurt Squire. He's interested in how culture and cultural representations mediate students' understanding in digital game-based learning environments. Together with Kurt, Levi, and Shree, he's working at an after-school program where kids play Civilization 3 to learn about history, culture, economics, and geography from a materialist perspective. He and Kurt are also looking at how playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas affects students' perceptions of race, culture, and violence. read more »
Durga, Shree

hree Durga is a graduate student in the Educational Communications and Technology program at UW Madison. Her background is in computer science. Before joining the graduate program she worked as a software developer in the IT industry in India. She has also worked as a content developer for an online learning club for management and banking professionals. read more »

Caro is working on a joint Masters in Mathematics and Mathematics Education, with the additional focus of harnessing the power of games for learning math. read more »
Dikkers, Seann
Seann is currently working to deliver an online world history curriculum using the game Civilization III. This project is sponsored by the Florida Virtual School.
Wolfenstein, Moses

Moses Wolfenstein is a doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds an MA in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University where he did mixed methods research and policy analysis on the New York Department of Education's district level suspension system. read more »
Martin, John

John Martin is passionate about sustainable design and living, and is excited that local games, like the handheld augmented reality games, can foster greater care for real places. He's spent 13 years helping to run a deep woods camp in Maine called Flying Moose Lodge, and is studying AR games there via the Mystery Trip. He'll write all about the blend of the game experience, design, and sociocultural connections to place in his doctoral dissertation. read more »
Jan, Mingfong

Mingfong Jan is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in Educational Communications and Technology, a minor in the design of learning environment, and a Master degree in Literature in Ecological Poetics. He has been working with Augmented Reality games since 2004, and has been deeply involved in the development and implementation of all the AR games we’ve done. He created the first AR game in Madison, Mad City Mystery, and is currently working on a game about the eco system of Lake Wingra. read more »
Mathews, Jim

Jim Mathews grew up in southeastern Wisconsin where he fondly remembers exploring the Root River watershed by role-playing as an adventurer, archaeologist, biologist, and time traveler. read more »
Holden, Chris

Chris Holden is a sixth year PhD student in Mathematics at UW-Madison with a specialization in Algebraic Number Theory. He also studies Math Education under Eric Knuth, researching middle and high school students' understanding and production of mathematical proof. He's been a member of the Games, Learning and Society group since the spring of 2004. His favorite games are Katamari Damacy and Dance Dance Revolution. read more »
