Hayes, Elizabeth

Betty Hayes is currently a professor in Curriculum & Instruction at Arizona State University.
Her current interests include the intersections of real life and virtual identities and learning, learning in the context of sports games such as Tony Hawk's Underground; digital literacies and implications for the design of e-learning. She is the author or editor of numerous articles, chapters, and books, including Women as Learners (2000) and the Handbook of Adult and Continuing Education (2000).
Gee, Jim

Dr. Gee is the Mary Lou Fulton Presidential Professor of Literacy Studies at Arizona State University.
His book Sociolinguistics and Literacies (1990) was one of the founding documents in the formation of the "New Literacies Studies", an interdisciplinary field devoted to studying language, learning, and literacy in an integrated way in the full range of their cognitive, social, and cultural contexts.
Hoar, Robert

Robert (Bob) Hoar is a professor of Mathematics and is the Director of the Institute for Innovation in Undergraduate Research and Learning at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. Dr. Hoar earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematics at Montana State University, and two B.S. degrees, in Mathematics and in Computer Science, from the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology. In 2003-04, he served as Chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), after serving for several years as a Councilor in the division.
Shaffer, David

David Williamson Shaffer is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the departments of Educational Psychology and Curriculum and Instruction, a Game Scientist at the Academic Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory and a Research Associate in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Communication and Democracy.
Halverson, Erica

Erica Halverson is an Assistant Professor of Learning Sciences in the Educational Psychology department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research interests have been shaped both by her academic training (she received her PhD from the Learning Sciences department at Northwestern University in 2005) and by her work in the “real world” (she is the co-founder of Barrel of Monkeys, a Chicago area non-profit arts organization).
Steinkuehler, Constance

Constance Steinkuehler is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Educational Communications and Technology division of Curriculum and Instruction. After researching and developing online learning environments designed specifically for learning for five years, she shifted her focus toward the documentation and analysis of more naturally occurring online learning environments, specifically those designed for play (massively multiplayer online games or MMOGs).
Halverson, Richard

Rich Halverson is a former high school teacher, school technology specialist, curriculum director and school administrator. He has taught English, American History and Philosophy in a Catholic urban high school. Dr. Halverson has earned an MA in Philosophy and a PhD in the Learning Sciences from Northwestern University. He was raised in Manitowoc, WI and is a rabid Packer and fantasy sports fan. Dr. Halverson has served as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since fall 2001.
Squire, Kurt

Kurt Squire is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Educational Communications and Technology division of Curriculum and Instruction. He is a former Montessori and primary school teacher and, before coming to Wisconsin, was Research Manager of the Games-to-Teach Project at MIT and Co-Director of the Education Arcade.
