Overview and Objectives
The Academic ADL Co-Lab staff facilitates a four-week long, web-based course that explores the practical application of Sequencing and Navigation in SCORM-conformant content. Upon completion, course participants can expect to:
- Have a working knowledge of SCORM Sequencing and Navigation
- Identify ways that Sequencing can enhance distributed learning content
- Be able to use the Reload Editor to create and modify SCORM content packages with Sequencing and Navigation
Course Format and Duration
Each of the four weeks’ content contains a mix of:
- Reading online content
- Video tutorials
- Online self-assessments
- Participation in discussions
- Modifying and building Content Packages with SCORM Sequencing and Navigation
- Testing Content Packages with SCORM Sequencing and Navigation using a variety of tools
Most participants will spend five to ten hours per week completing course content, depending on their previous experience. Any synchronous content will be recorded for later playback for those that are not able to attend.
Course Topics
- Practical application of SCORM Sequencing and Navigation
- Basic instructional design concepts for use alongside SCORM Sequencing and Navigation
- Applying SCORM Sequencing to alter a learner’s path through content within a SCORM Content Package
- SCORM Simple Sequencing best practices
Intended Audience and Required Skills
Completion of Academic ADL Co-Lab’s original SCORM School course (now called SCORM School 201) or equivalent content knowledge is required. Participants should be able to:
- Describe essential SCORM Communication and Tracking, Content Packaging, and Sequencing concepts
- Use the SCORM Conformance Test Suite and Sample Runtime Environment to test Content Packages
- Use the Reload Editor to create SCORM Content Packages
System and Software Requirements
The following are required to complete SCORM School. Download links are provided when relevant:
- Microsoft Windows XP
- Broadband Internet connection
- Internet Explorer v6.0 or later
- Adobe Flash Player plug-in v9 or later
- Java SE Development Kit (JDK) v6.0 or later
- SCORM 2004 3rd Edition Conformance Test Suite v1.0.2 (Self Test)
- Reload Editor v2.5.5
The ADL SCORM software tools are freely available from the ADL website links provided. Note that you will need to create a free adlnet.gov account to download the Conformance Test Suite and Sample Run-Time Environment. Also note that the ADL SCORM Sample Runtime Environment has additional set-up steps beyond the initial installation. Those steps are covered in the installation readme file.
